The Importance of Maintaining Your Oil Tank

Maintaining your oil tank is something that often gets neglected by both homeowners and commercial business owners. Ideally you should get a qualified professional to inspect your tank system at least once a year. They will not only inspect the tank, they will also check out the associated pipework, equipment, secondary containment and the surroundings.

They will check your tanks for a variety of different things including:

• Signs of corrosion, damage, and leaks
• Signs of distortion and bulging
• The condition of the sight gauge, vents, battery, access points and the external bund
• Oil staining on the ground and around the tank
• Any problems with the supporting structure and base

Any problems that are brought to your attention through a professional inspection should be acted on quickly to avoid any potential hazards and pollution.

Generally oil tanks have a working life of around 15 years. If your tank is older than this and is showing signs of wear and tear then we strongly advise you to get it replaced. A leak from a faulty tank could cause a hefty clean-up bill so this is best avoided.

At Ingoe Oils we have many years experience in installing oil tanks and all of our installations are carried out by skilled OFTEC approved engineers. We are able to supply standard single skin tanks and fully bunded tanks in various sizes, available in polythene and steel for domestic and commercial use. We can also arrange for the safe removal and disposal of your existing tank.
